• President of Asharqia Chamber: International Advisors and Lawyers are going to be among the speakers of the Forum of Waqf Practices 2018

    The Forum will start next Sunday under the patronage of the Prince of the region.

    President of Asharqia Chamber: International Advisors and Lawyers are going to be among the speakers of the Forum of Waqf Practices 2018.

     

    The head of Asharqia Chamber, Abdul Hakim Al-Khalidi, said that a number of international specialists with long experience in the field of endowments would be speaking about the Forum of Waqf Practices 2018. The Forum of Waqf Practices 2018 would be held by Asharqia Chamber (represented by the Awqaf Committee) next Sunday, April 1, under the patronages of the Prince of the Eastern Region His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef.

    The consultant Dr. Robert Graf Strachwitz, Executive Director of the Mesinata Foundation in Germany, would be reviewing the most prominent experiences of the development of endowments in Europe and the Arab world. Dr. Robert is a scientist and a historian that has been involved with nonprofit organizations for more than 30 years as a volunteer, an employee, a board member, and a researcher.

    Al-Khalidi said that the legal jurist, Dr. David Russell, would be talking about an important topic, a review of successful experiences in the management of family endowments. Dr. David is considered to be one of the most important academics in this field. He started practicing law in 1974 and is distributed between Australia, England, and Wales. He has also served in the DIFC Courts and has served in New York as a Legal Counsel, Singapore International Commercial Court, New Zealand, as well as in Guinea. He was appointed Queen's adviser in 1986.

    Dr. Fahed Bin Hamad Al Daeilj, Executive Director of Saad and Abdulaziz Al Mousa Endowment, would be talking about the experience of Saad and Abdul Aziz al-Mousa Endowment in the Kingdom.

    In addition, Khalid Bin Abed Qamah, Chief Executive Officer of Methaq Holding, the investment arm of Awqaf bin Mahfouz, would present the experience of Awqaf bin Mahfouz in the Kingdom. Khalid Qamah is a senior executive with more than 25 years of practical experience in the Shari'ah compliant financial and real estate sector both domestically and internationally. He also has experience in managing and leading companies, and in management of civil and charitable endowments with the application of best management practices and standards of governance in various fields of management for companies and their councils and committees.

    Engineer Musa bin Mohammed al-Mousa, a member of the Awqaf Committee in Asharqia Chamber, would be talking about the most prominent experiences of the British Endowments.

    Moreover, Dr. Salah bin Abdul Qader, Secretary of the Trusteeship Council of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Mutawa Endowments in Kuwait, would be discussing the experience of Sheikh Abdullah AlMutawa Endowments.

    AlKhalidi explained that the Forum and through the large names that hosts it emphasizes the successes of the owners of experience in the endowment sector. In fact, they became models and schools of its methodology and assets, which could used by the rest of the establishments in the private and public sectors.

    He stressed the great efforts that are being made by the Chamber (represented by the Awqaf Committee) in hosting the Forum and achieving its objectives, which are as follows: focusing on the practical side to promote the practices of local endowments, increasing their effectiveness and their positive impact through the presentation of practices of global and local endowments, drawing the attention of businessmen and businesswomen to the importance of endowments as well as individual or institutional grant programs, and the presentation of many local and international endowment practices that show the great impact of the waqf on business and family inheritance.

    Al-Khalidi emphasized that the forum seeks to provide best practices in topics that are concerned with the establishment of successful and sustainable family endowments. In addition, the Forum would be discussing other topics such as managing and investing in family endowments effectively, maximizing the social return on investment (SROI) through family waqfs, and overcoming the potential challenges of the endowment sector.​
